International Master Georgi Orlov is 1994 US Open Champion rated 2575 USCF. Georgi Orlov led Villa Academy and Seattle Country Day teams to Washington State Championship titles. Georgi will be teaching the advanced group in all three camps.

AUGUST:  SEATTLE/SHORELINE August 1 - 5th, 2004, (9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.) Child-care (4 pm-6pm) is available for this camp.

INVITED: Students in grades 1-9 interested in learning chess, from beginners to experienced players.

There will be total of five – six groups in each camp, taught by experienced chess instructors. Students will be placed by rating/experience and grade/age.

 

We place students in groups based on their grade and experience. We also consider their tournament history and tournament results. We usually have the following groups, it is subject to change based on grades and level of participating players, and also on a number of participating students. We will have placement for everyone! Please contact us chess64@comcast.net if you need to discuss placement of your child. Some students might be placed into higher or lower groups on your request.

Our observation is that within 100 points rating students play at the same level, students within 200 points have the same knowledge of chess theory. Rating of students in grades K-3 somewhat higher than grades 4-6.

1. Advanced:            Ratings 1200+ grades 3 and up

 
2. Intermediate IV:   Grades 6-9 and up

3. Intermediate Advanced III:                  Grades 4-6  Approx rating 900-1100

4. Intermediate II:    Grades K-3 Approx rating 800-1000

5. Intermediate I:     Grades 3-4  Approx rating 800-1000

6 Advanced Beginners  Grades K-3 Approx rating 600-700 or unrated

7  Beginners:                           Grades K-2 Approx rating 400-600 or unrated

REGISTRATION FEE:
$189.00, ($169. for an additional child from the family) if postmarked before deadline);
$209.00 ($189), after deadline.
Deadlines: 05/15 June Camp; 06/01 – July, August Camps
Cancellation fee $20. No refunds 3 days prior to the camp except medical emergency.

Orlov Summer Chess Camp Questions and Answers

INVITED: Anyone in grades K-9 interested in learning chess, from very beginners to experienced players
If you have any comments on you child’s level please include it into the registration form and send by email.
Breaks are every forty five minutes (may vary for different groups), with play inside and outside.
During 5 days of the camp we run three tournaments: Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced.
If your child has a friend and they would like to be together, please let us know!
On the last
day of the camp we run a Siamese (bughouse) tournament. One tournament for all grades and level. Participation is optional. Your child will need to select a partner for this event. We will provide more info during the camp. Students will have daily practice with Siamese games (optional).


EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM:
·           Opening Theory;  Middlegame and Ending studies;
·           Tournament games; Speed Chess (Top groups); Simuls; NEW FEATURE! –This year, besides our regular G/30 tournaments we will be offering students an option to play a tournament with longer time control G/60 (one game a day). We recommend this for advanced players with rating over 1000. Recording is required for this tournament. Only certificates for top places overall will be awarded in this tournament. Chess sets will be provided; Students need to bring a sack lunch;
Concession with snacks, soup, pizza, drinks, T-Shirts will be available for sale.

NEW FEATURE! An educational workshop “How to get better at chess” (for camp parents only) on Fridays  9:10 am to 10:30 am. We will answer your questions on chess instructions, child’s chess improvement and participation in tournaments.
