7th Annual Catholic Schools Chess Championship
Open only to students attending Catholic Schools


When: Saturday, December 17, 2005 - Bring your chess set, board, and a pencil.

Where: St. Sebastian School, 307 Siebert Rd., Pgh, 15237. From Pittsburgh, take the Veteran's Bridge to 279N. Get off at McKnight Rd. Continue approximately 2.7 miles North on McKnight Rd to Siebert Rd. (On your left will be North Hills Village Mall and large Post Office). Turn left onto Seibert. School is just ahead on your left. Park in large upper lot. Steps at back of lot lead directly to the main school entrance. Signs will lead you to the playing area in the gym. Time:  9:30 am - 2:15 p.m.  The schedule is as follows: 
9:30 - 9:50	Check in & seating - Please be there by 9:30am
9:50 -10:00	Announcement of tournament rules and info
10:00 - 10:40	Round 1 Games
10:50 - 11:30	Round 2 Games
11:30 - Noon	Lunch - Food will be on sale or bring your own.
Noon - 12:40	Round 3 Games
12:50 - 1:30	Round 4 Games
1:30 - 1:45	Calculation of Winners
1:45 - 2:15	Awards Ceremony
2:15		Parent Pickup - or come earlier for the awards
5 Sections: students will automatically be placed in the correct section
Grades K - 2 - for all players in Grades K to 2
Grades 3 - 6 Beginner - for Unrated Players and Players Rated 599 & Under
Grades 3 - 6 Advanced - for Players Rated 600 & Over
Grades 7 - 12 Beginner - for Unrated Players and Players Rated 799 & Under
Grades 7 - 12 Advanced - for Players Rated 800 & Over

Note: Sections may be combined or split as necessary, depending on enrollment.

Format: Everyone plays all 4 games. Swiss system pairings will be used, which means when you win, you get more challenging opponents, and when you lose, you get easier opponents. 40 minutes playing time allowed per game, with results of unfinished games being judged by Chessmaster Jerry Meyers.

Prizes: Trophies and ribbons will be awarded as prizes. The exact number of prizes for each section will be based on the number of entrants in that section. There will be a top girl prize in each section. There will also be a team trophy awarded to the Top 2 schools. To qualify as a team, your school must have 4 or more entrants. Team score is the sum of the results of the 4 highest scoring members on the team. The larger your team, the better your school’s chances. Everyone on the winning teams will receive ribbons.

Cost: Entry Fee is $15 if postmarked by Dec 5. US Chess Federation (USCF) membership is required of all participants. If joining or renewing USCF, cost is $13 for 1 year Economy membership (no magazine) or $19 for Scholastic membership (includes bimonthly Chess Life magazine). Membership allows you to play rated games. The only difference between the Economy and Scholastic membership is the magazine.
