New game online: Online Chess.
It has been online for some time now but I have just brought the computer player up at a reasonable level. The game is a test case for my game server that allows for multiplayer games via Java applets.
The game and the multiplayer platform is different in the way that it does not require you to register. Instead you are given a random login and you only need to pick an avatar (a boy or a boy) and you are set to play. The idea behind this design is to open the game to more casual visitors - visitors who don’t play regular and thus are turned of by cumbersome registration procedures.
The computer player is based the standard min/max algorithm with extended search depth for captures. It does not have an opening book so its opening game is entirely up to its evaluation heurestics and will thus open quite a bit different than other computer chess programs.

I hope you have all tried my new game: Mr. Hopwit and the Mysterious Maze. Technically the big new thing is the sound engine. It requires Java 1.3.1+ so it is likely that you are not hearing anything since Microsoft’s Java 1.1 still is the most common applet plugin. But if you are, then you are hearing an emulated 4 channel FM synthesizer with two oscillators pr. channel and a lowpass filter with resonance. The oscillators are really just precalculated wavetables which means that I can throw in any waveform in the synthesizer.
I was able to figure out FM synthesis on my own but the low pass filtering is from an astoundishing good resource: www.musicdsp.org which I found at javagaming.org’s discussion forums. It is a true treasure box of synthesizer techniques and with Java sound it was an absolute joy to add sound and music to the game.
If you wish to upgrade from MS Java 1.1, you can find Sun’s latest virtual machine at www.java.com.

I have deciding to do a 3 month experiment with advertisement on my applet games. I use Google AdSense. The results: What I get paid and how much traffic there was during the period I will post here.
I had numerous considerations in doing this:
Keeping a decent layout. This is a foremost and I think this service has takes their content providers seriously since they do offer a good set of possibilities for changing color and size of the ads. I chose the smallest of the possible sizes and I have tried my best to adjust the colours to suit my pages which was possible in most cases.
Breaking out of frames to limit advertisement overload from game portals. I don’t have any problems with doing that. Most likely the subtle textads of Google will give my users a much better experience than the disturbing banners they are used to. The only problem I have is that this may be problematic for google’s counting of my traffic since a breakout may cause a double hit in their statistics.
Selecting proper keywords to guide both search engines and the advertisement system. Since the game pages contain little or no text, metadata keywords is only way of guiding an automatic search engine or advertisement engine.
I have given every game 10 keywords. The keywords fall in three groups:
If you have any problems with my new ad driven commercialism, then please do tell. If you for some reason need a non ad ridden version of my games - then throw me an email.

A network-orientated knowledge-sharing tool. An anyone-can-edit-because-it-is-under-full-version-control hypertext system.
Orange Wiki's distinctive features are:
It is implemented using J2EE-technology. It uses XML for its persistent storage, it has a Model-View-Controller architecture and it uses Apache Velocity for its template files.
Take a look.

... they really really are ... it's just that ... uhm ... just like everything else on this site they have to go through a really tight quality control process ... you know ... quality control ... that's what's it's about.

This catalog is amazing - an endless source of love and inspiration - and I haven't even ordered Maria Duval's talisman yet.

... is coming back in style ... So I finally got over it - that 1995 netscape black on gray style - that even Jakob Nielsen on an early morning would love ... nah ... make that approve - is gone. This new style is absolutely xml-css-dynamic et. al - as usual: I crave for your love and admiration ...

BTW: A couple of new games are coming up - I will post on them in a couple of days ...
