I do not remember how I originally obtained this information or how accurate it is especially since
some of the Champions on the list are still active but I thought that it was interesting
enough to
include along with this poll anyway. If you have more complete statistics, or would like to claim credit
for these statistics please email me and I will be happy to post either here.
Hi,
This is didymus7, webmaster for the kNights Of the Square Table (NOST). I
just happened by your site (came from ChessChat via the webring) and I voted
in your poll. I'm very surprised that MSN ranks #1 for online chess. I
quit MSN chess for two reasons: First and most aggravating (sp.? what the
heck...;)is that it's very simple to cheat at MSN. This has been done to
me. The clock is wrong on chess, it does not forfeit someone who's lost on
time until that person makes a move, so simply, when your time runs out,
don't move! If you opponent leaves, he has to forfeit. Then, of course, if
you disconnect, you don't lose, the game is cancelled! How much better for
the chess cheat! The second reason is that you don't know what time limit
your opponent wants to play until you sit at the game. It's really
frustrating sitting at a table with an opponent who only wants to play 1
minute chess.
Anyways, that's my take....
Oh, yeah, the NOST is at http://members.nbci.com/knightsost

Kinda makes you think that they want to cheat...hmmm....
Yahoo chess is interesting, oh, I intend to play on ICC/FICS/US Chess Live,
but I like the Yahoo interface for finding games, they are all at the top of
the list, with game times and opponent, and each opponent is color keyed to
show rating. HOWEVER.....yahoo starts all new players at a 1200 rating and
then uses ELO formulas. This results in the interesting scenario where you
could play a 1300 player, just out of provisional (20 games) who is really
2300+ OTB! Also I noticed that they even have players rated in the 3100s.
The ladder is also a trip...the topper the other day was barely rated 1600,
and trailed by a couple of 2500 and 3100 players.
Anyways, I like the idea of the polls, we don't get enough traffic at NOST
to do something about that. I'm currently trying to get content, but being
a small, volunteer club, I don't get much help....I'll be poking around your
site more....;)
Best...Steve
