My dad loved roses. I suppose he became interested, at first because of our last name, dug a rose bed, and put in a few bushes. The few bushes grew, and he dug more beds. He was hooked; he couldn't be satisfied with just a few pretty flowers, and kept on adding rose beds until finally, the whole garden was roses with only a bit of lawn. Daddy was a president of "The Memphis Rose Society", a founder of "The Dixie Rose Club", and a Consulting Rosarian for "The American Rose Society". He had almost 300 varieties when I left for college. Not many years later he had his first heart attack and was no longer able to keep up the garden.

This page is dedicated to the memory of my father, Brehon Rose.
