i have a real serious attitude about humor :) there is a distinct, sharp difference between laughing AT people and laughing WITH them. the latter is much more difficult to accomplish. i equate it with the dark and light sides of the force. one is easy, powerful, and feeds the ego. the other requires much more patience and observation, letting the ridiculousness of situations flow into you. there might be an evolutionary advantage in this. group settings and individuals. i wonder if there is a study on laughter? what exactly is "laughing"? is it an exercise in muscle spasms that relieve stress (good times?)? when people tell me to "lighten up" and judge me as "too serious" i have to wonder about their own insecurities of me not joining in on their ego elevating exercises. i do however, like to laugh. i laugh at the asurdity of life. it's real easy to sit there and watch other people and get in a little juvenile gang of gossip and verbal attacks (albeit subtle). it's another universe to try and find real humor and a connection with another individual, and even more difficult within a group. laughter makes us feel safe in numbers. how do you feel safe with yourself? - @Om* 2/18/2000
Marketing Memes that do not seem to come off the way they should:
"When you cease to believe that you're Nobody and you begin to believe that you might be Somebody, this is considered proof of severe mental disturbance, and you become a candidate for sedation at this point, because usually the discovery that you're Somebody excites you into inappropriate states of arousal, which means you interfere with other people's being asleep, and you run around trying to inform them of the true nature of things.....The only conjuration against that developing into a problem is Humour. You have to have a completely jaundiced view ofreality; you can't take anything seriously, including your own most serious constructs and expectations, because it is ultimately some kind of joke...."
"Quantum mechanics describes nature as absurd and it fully agrees from the point of common sense. And it fully agrees with experiment. So I hope you can accept nature as She is - absurd."
"If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it."
