prominent late eighties to nineties internal linkpunk record label.  DIY before everyone DIT (did it themselves).  started by Lawrence Livermore who acquired two assistants in the early on (Pat & Chrisser).  i believe one of them is now the owner.  the early years successfully encapsulated the bay area power pop sound revolving around the anarchic fundom of Gilman Street Warehouse.  personal space/time internal linkrelevancy: 1987 through 1991.  the leapfrogging vs. slamming, bags of trash, the innocent fun of Green Day, the soaring melodies of internal linkSamiam, the diamond-as-coal of Crimpshrine, and the original ska/punk fusion ENERGY of Operation Ivy.  i picked this type of vibe over the dour poli-edge  and stale emotionless emocore of santa barbara and the stupidity of alcohol fueled "punk" because i realized it wasn't the technicalities of music, it was a flow of energy, and the type of drugs you consumed (caffeine is a drug and if you are militantly "straight", you are sterile).  late eighties gilman (no alcohol policy) had it and it was fueled by Lookout.  this approach to music is applied to my current tastes in electronic music production.  as soon as cliques form and bickering starts over what is good and what isn't, the vibe, community,  and fun,  is lost.  time to move on.  goa/psychedelic trance had it for a few years in the nineties.  people didn't know what to make of it.  they didn't know what to make of this label or the bay area at the time either... as above, so below. - @Om* 5/30/00.

with the exception of the first track, this release was playing nonstop for the longest stretch that i can remember of any band, including the addictive early Green Day... this was thrash pop perfection with clean middle production.  what put the band over the top was the backing vocals of Danny Vapid.  Ben Weasel clearly nailed the lyrics with equal doses of cynicsm and spastic wit, and that wistful sadness peeks through at the perfect moments.  it turned on punk rock cliches by internal linkdefending spirituality (_Science of Myth_), and took on the b.s. within the scene.  a breath of fresh air during that era. - @Om* 11/19/00
