Science Fair
November 30th 9am – 2 pm

This science fair is open to all Cumberland County Home Education Support Group families with children in grades K – 12. It is a good chance to get your projects ready for the Smoky Mountain Home Education Support Group Science Fair that will be held in February. Judges will be prominent scientists from Oak Ridge and Crossville. Prizes will be given for each grade level. If you are interested in entering the Science Fair, please reply to this e-mail or call me at 484-8756 and I will send you a copy of the rules and an entry form. The location of the fair will be announced as soon as it is confirmed. If your students need ideas for their entries, I have lots of books with easy and exciting projects. Just send me a note and we will make sure they have an entry

Christmas Craft Fair
November 30th 9am – 2 pm

The craft fair is a chance for all of our homeschooling families to display and sell crafts that they have been preparing for Christmas. If you have a special product that you make and would like a chance to make it available to other homeschoolers this is the perfect opportunity. Tables will be available for display. This craft fair and sale will be held at the same time as the Science Fair to give all of you the opportunity to see the wonderful work that our homeschooling families can produce. I hope you will all come to the craft fair and take the opportunity to stop and see the science fair entries at the same time. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Nye at 456-5752 or nyekids@citlink.net

Pilgrims Feast
November 20th 11am – 1 pm

If you were here last year for our Pilgrims Feast you know it is not an event to be missed. Come dressed as Pilgrims and Indians. Bring your favorite Thanksgiving dish (Turkey will be provided) and join us for a wonderful meal. There will be crafts and games for the kids and an opportunity to meet with other homeschooling families to give thanks for all that is good in our lives. This event will be held at Trinity Tabernacle this year and we are grateful that they are sharing their wonderful facilities with us. We are hoping to also provide entertainment in the form of a Puppet Show. Our Puppeteering Enrichment Class has been working very hard this semester on their presentation techniques and we are very excited to be able to see the fruits of their labor.

Roane State Community College Open House November 26th at 9:00am

Roane State will be hosting an open house for our homeschooling high school students. They will have information available on dual enrolment as well as advanced studies for students in the 9th through 12th grades. We are excited about the chance to have our students work with the professors at Roane State to further their studies. This event will be held at the Roane State Campus in Crossville. We hope you will be there to show your support for this exciting relationship between an excellent community college and the homeschooling community in Cumberland County.

The First Lego League program
Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002

Tennessee Tech. University will host The First Lego League program. This is a tournament using miniature robots built from Lego parts to meet a specified technological challenge. The First Lego League program is an interactive competition that seeks to inspire curiosity among youth ages 9-14 by captivating their interest in science and technology as they master the dynamics of teamwork and problem solving. For more info about First Lego League or the Cookeville tournament go to www.usfirst.org/jrobtcs. If you are interested in becoming part of a team for next year please call Jamie Nye at 456-5752. I would like to get some youth together along with leaders and put a team together.
