Incorrect Opening

Move White Black
1 e4 a6
2 d4 a5

If you want to con your opponent into thinking you are an absolute beginner who hasn't got a clue what they're doing then try this. I would recommend this opening more for a laugh than to be played seriously, don't expect all your opponents to fall for this trick.

This will give them a bit of a shock when they find out that you are actually a reasonably good player (Try it in on the Internet against people you don't know for example).

In this opening white should be looking to grab the centre early on and take a lead in the development. I would recommend that white castled kingside as the already advanced black a-file pawn could prove dangerous if white castled queen side.

You might have your own ideas about how to continue the game when you start playing properly but here is how I would continue. I think that black should be looking to play like they might with a French Defence by playing 3....e6;  4....d5; with 5....c5; if white plays 5. e5. A typical continuation might be something like 3. Nf3 e6;  4. c4 d5;  5. Nc3. Now I would recommend black playing a sort of French Defence Winawer Variation by playing 5....Bb4;

White can now play 6. Bd2 which allows 6....Bxc3;  7. Bxc3 dxe4; however white might be able to win the pawn back quite easily by playing 7. Nd2 Nf6;  8. Qc2. or black could play 7....f5; to try and save the pawn but this is a bit risky. White could also play 6. Bd3 or 6. Qc2 to avoid the risk of losing the pawn. Black can then play 6....c5; which leads to a very unusual position without much of an advantage for white. By now white may realise that their opponent isn't as stupid as they originally thought they were after the very unusual first 2 moves.
