As with any creative activity, it doesn't really matter if anyone else ever sees it, but it's rewarding if someone else does see it... and likes it too. As with other creative undertakings, it sure feels good when someone likes your work so much that they acknowledge it with an award! Some awards are easy to come by, like when a neighbor divides his perennials and gives the extras away. They're pretty and make the garden a nicer place to visit. Others take a lot of work and when you get one of these, it's like having that plant you grew from a seed, watered, fertilized, weeded and nurtured, finally come into glorious bloom, and then win first prize at the flower show! What a thrill!!! Sometimes, too, a seed will sprout and grow that wasn't planned at all, but turns out to be enchanting and just perfect for the spot it inhabits. Some people call these weeds; others call them wildflowers. Gifts and unsolicited awards are like wildflowers! |
