WELCOME TO MY GARDEN

My Garden, like most gardens, contains the things that I care about, think are interesting, or that just make me smile -- not necessarily flowers or vegetables... hopefully you'll find something here that you like too! You don't have to be a flower-lover to enjoy a garden, you know, but I am. My RoseGarden is a special place tucked away in my memory and my imagination.
It's a secret, you know, so I'm not providing a link to it here. If you happen across it, you never know what you might find.
Right now, there's a bit of poetry and an inspiring story there that someone sent me in the mail, but it changes from time to time depending on my mood and my mailbox.

I am a biologist, a botanist by training. Though I am not employed in that area, I still love it and have collected quite a few Botany and wildflower links.
I have had an interest in photography since childhood, that has grown in time first to an avid interest, and then into a passion. As a botanist, I have more or less specialized in nature and wildflower photography. I'd like to share some of the 1000's of photographs I've accumulated over the years. You'll find them in my Gallery. This area is slow growing, however, since most of my wildflower photos are slides and I don't have a slide scanner! Oh, well, it'll happen.
I attended graduate school at The University of Texas, and lived in Austin,Texas for almost 10 years. I fell in love with the Texas Hill Country.
Several years ago as much as I hated leaving Austin, I moved back to my hometown, Memphis, Tennessee where I ressurected my father's garden

Update!  In 1998, I married my highschool sweetheart, Tom. I moved my furniture from my "Treehouse" into the house he was renting in September, then we moved again in November. Not long after, Mom sold the house and along with it Daddy's garden. I miss that garden, but what a memory! I moved some plants from Mom's house to this one, so pieces of that garden live on here. Now have another garden to bring back to life. Someone who lived here once upon a time was a gardener. The first year we moved in there were signs of former flower beds overgrown with grass, and lots of flowering shrubs just waiting to burst into bloom with the coming spring. I ordered rosebushes for delivery in the early spring, but waited before doing too much digging. I had a feeling there were going to be some pleasant surprises lying dormant in those long-neglected beds, and I was right! Now, almost six years later, the garden has been transformed from a yard to a garden. A garden is never finished, and I still have dreams of more to come.

I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember, started piano lessons when I was 8, played in the band, and lived through the "Beatle era" in the 60's. Memphis was the cradle of Rock and Roll and home of the Blues, but I was a "folkie" instead, learned to play acoustic guitar, and have loved folkmusic since I was in my teens.
Of course I can't forget my cats. I know that pets are on the top ten list of don't's for homepages, but hey, my children are grown and my kitties are family! If you don't want to see my pets, then don't look. It's my page, and I'm going to include them.
Oh my, what else is there? I'm a chocoholic, love the outdoors, am a woman, and have friends! So, I'm including links to these things and people, as well as a whole lot more. Maybe I'll even devote a whole page to each of them in the future. I'm a packrat, a born collector, so this page will always be evolving!

Those nice people on the web who were kind enough to donate their talent for the rest of us to use deserve a page too, so there's a page to acknowledge the graciousness of others. I call this page my Bein' Nice page because that's where I thank the people who have been nice to me and give some hints on how I've learned to "be nice" to others!

I almost forgot -- Daddy's roses -- he really grew them, that isn't just a figment of my imagination. That's what this is all about, isn't it?

.......Gin
I'm out collecting roses to plant in my garden. Soon there will be lots more. Please come back often, sit down, stay for a while, and smell the roses!
