Web Site Promotion - II

The External Aspect

Quick Menu:

Regarding the External Realm of Web Site Promotion, experts say that the most efficient of all types of promotion is to have as many links to your site on as many Web Pages as possible.

This is, therefore, one of the central themes that we are going to be discussing below, in addition to some other useful tips to help you get new visitors.

Considering the extension of the Web Site Promotion topic, we are sure to add to this discussion, as time goes by. Within this context, you are certainly welcome to request that we give priority to dealing with whatever area that you may be needing help with now! Just pls. drop us a line on it, and we'll do our best to comply with your request the soonest possible!

Links to Your Web Site

In case you are wondering why it should be so relevant to have as many links to you as possible on as many Web Sites as possible, the reason has to do with the Search Engines: the more links your Web Page enjoys, Net 'round, the more often your Page is likely to show up amongst the results yielded for a search.

Submission to the Search Engines, constituting a chapter in itself, will thus not be dealt with below. While we have not come to discuss this issue, you can safely use the service offered by Submit Express. It is free and pretty reliable, ranking among the best free services of its kind on the Web.

If you wish more links for free submission of your Web Site to Search Engines, please take a look at our Useful Links Page.

Even if you have no commercial ambitions regarding your Home Page, we'd have it hard to believe that you are using your time to build your Home Page, just so it is visited by a few faithful friends...
So, why not start working on having people link to you, from the very beginning?

This is something that can be done from the very start, even if your page is still under construction (a situation that places some restriction on how far you are able to invest on Web Page promotion, otherwise). In addition, investing on having other Web Sites link to yours is a process that takes time--so the earlier you start, the better!

HomePage MadeEasy offers you two possibilities of enjoying LINKS to your Home Page.

One possibility is to make use of one of the two HomePage MadeEasy's Free-For-All Links Pages. One of these is sponsored by BraveNet, the other by Site Gadgets.com.

Free-for-all or Free4all Pages, initially an idea by Matt Wright, have become pretty well known modes of Site promotion on the Web. The promotion is done by means of leaving one's link on these pages. Even though there is some controversy regarding the true productivity of these Free-for-all link pages, it surely does not hurt to add Your Link to some of these pages!

HomePage MadeEasy's
Free-For-All  Links Page!

Happy Promoting!:)

Besides providing you with this extra possibility of enjoying Links to your Home Page, HomePage MadeEasy has both these Free-for-All Links Pages available, so you can experience the differences and similarities between them. This way, if/when you wish to have a Free-for-All Links Page on Your Site, you will have no problems choosing where to go get your Free-for-All Links Page!:) Both Web Sites, Bravenet and Site Gadgets offer this service for free. To subscribe to either one, you can simply click on the link of your preference, below:

Quite differently from these possibilities offered to you by the HomePage Made Easy Web Site, however, a good number of these Free4all Pages spread around the Web require that you keep returning to re-post your Link (such links are often kept for 24 hours only, as a way of forcing you to return to that page). HomePage MadeEasy's Free-For-All Links Page, in turn, will keep your Link forever!

The only change that may take place is that, half a year or so after you have posted your link on HomePage MadeEasy's Free-For-All Links Page, Your Link might have moved way down the Free-For-All Links Page. To counteract this, and bring Your Link near the top again, where it is more likely to get more exposures, thus more hits, you would need to repost Your Link. (The links posted last are the ones appearing first.) To repost, you need to notify us a day in advance or so, for us to enable your reposting: it's usual procedure on Free-For-All Links Pages not to allow double-posting.

If you do nothing about the Link you have placed on HomePage MadeEasy's Free-For-All Links Page, however, you can be sure that Your Link will remain on the Page, just as you have initially posted it.

If one day you happen to close that particular Web Site, then we hope that you will write to us telling that you no longer have that Web Site--we will most certainly appreciate your doing this, should it ever be the case, so we can then duly remove your Link. After all, we'd like always to be offering healthy, active links to all our Guest and Friends, and to all those who come by to check our Free-For-All Links Pages!

Another advantage of using these two HomePage Made Easy's Free-For-All Links Pages is that you will not go through the inconvenience of finding all sorts of "spam" correspondence on your mailbox, once you have submitted your Link! (Below you will understand why the word "spam" was written in quotes above.) We take both Your and Our privacy very seriously, you can be sure!

Although all of these Free4all Pages can be used for free, in reality, you end up "paying" for submitting your Link to many of them, simply by having to put up with a lot of "spam". This comes from what they call their Senior Members--Web Site owners who have paid some kind of membership fee to the main holder of the Parent Free-for-All Web Site. This membership allows these Web Site owners legally to use every address posted on their pages as the recipient of their promotional mailings.

Putting it plain, this means that, if you are willing to spend money, you actually manage to "spam" without it being legally called spam... Well, as it goes in George Orwell's Animal Farm,

all animals are equal; but some animals are more equal than others...

Anyway, it can be a hassle suddenly to find from 50-500 promotional mails in your mailbox, and to keep receiving a large amount for well over a month's time--as the aftermath of one single submition of your Link! So, watch out before you submit your Link to any of the more commercial or professional looking Free4all Pages that you find on the Web! Read carefully the Terms and Conditions that are usually posted somewhere on that Web Site, before you make use of one of these pages!

HomePage Made Easy's Free-For-All Links Pages present no such risk to you, you can be sure! Your Link, once posted there, there will be no one to send you spam mail under a legal guise! In addition to offering you this advantage, HomePage Made Easy's Free-For-All Links Page is one more space on the Web where your Home Page can enjoy exposure, a situation the dividends of which are more visitors to your Web Page!

As already mentioned, we will be discussing Web Site Promotion further. In the meantime, please feel free to send in any query you may have on this vast topic.

Your Own Links Page

Here is another hot tip within the present context. This hot tip is a very effective suggestion for you to consider: on the Links section of your Web Site, invite your visitors to leave their links, in exchange for them also placing your link on their pages, evidently.

You don't have a Links section? Well, it is very simple to place an extra page on your Site, and name it Links! So, don't waste time!:) Remember that the mutual exchange of links is among the very best investiments toward increasing the number of visitors to your Home Page!

A great way to invite people to exchange links with you is to place a small form on your Links page. Why so? Well, some visitors feel too lazy, or inhibited, or whatever, to send you an e-mail message in this regard; or else, they end up forgetting to do it, if they do not do it right on the spot, while the subject is warm.

The Net is a curious environment where everything urges, all must be done on the spot. Thus, if you provide your visitors with a couple of boxes to fill in and a button to click, for submitting their link to you, it is guaranteed that you'll get a lot more responses than you would out of a simple invitation and nothing more.

One simple rule of thumb for a successful Web Site is that if you wish your visitors to comply with something, then make it as easy, as simple and as convenient as possible to them!

Most likely you don't know how to go about in order to have an Email Form on your Links page, so as to have those easy fill-in boxes available to your guests. Working with forms requires some familiarity with Java Scripts, which is most likely not your case, if you are here now. But there is nothing to worry about, if you don't know how to deal with Email Forms! And for sure you do not have to learn anything about Java Script, unless you wish to!:)

Here is what you can do in order to enjoy having these practical Email Forms on your Page, or equally effective substitutes.

There are many Web Sites that help you place on your Page any Email Form that you wish. Some of these Web Sites may be discussed more at large, as we get to tackle the Java Script topic. For the time being, we suggest that you try Bravenet's services, for any Email form you may be needing on your site.

For some of the Email form services that we find on the net (in exchange for being free!) make your Guests go through a lot of advertisement junk, before your Guests actually manage to send to you the intended filled-in form.

Wish to try one of these? You can Click Right Here and visit Freedback (below, you will be able to try other types of mail forms, as well, including Bravenet's). The service you will find on the Freedback Site is quite efficient and friendly. They announce, moreover, that this service is offered in a number of languages (we have not tried that--in case you do, please drop us a line and let us have your impression!).

The Freedback Web Site, in addition, will allow you to produce quite easily all sorts of Email Forms that you would not be able to produce all on your own. It is all very good...till you try what Your Guests will experience, whenever they make use of one of the Email Forms you have produced with Freedback's help:

Your Guests will be up to braving a long page displaying lots of advertisement all over, and inviting them, in addition, to subscribe to a number of services. A bit irritating is the fact that Your Guests will have to trouble to remove their e-mail addresses from some of these subscription "invitations," where the addresses will have been filled in by default, from the moment that Your Guests fill in their addresses onto the Email Form that they intend to send you. All in all, sending you an Email Form via the services provided by Freedback becomes a long, laborous process for Your Guests.

If you do not mind making Your Guests go through such an experience in order finally to be able to e-mail you a simple "click-and-go" Form, then Freedback may well be a service for you to make wide use of. After all, they do offer the attractive perspective that you will be able to produce and use just about any type of Email Form, with any combination of elements that you choose! This can no doubt be tempting.

If, like us, however, you'd rather spare your guests of a small avalanche of advertisement down their screens, as well as of the trouble of searching for where their e-mail addresses have been pre-written so as to erase all these instances, then please read on, for there are other more Guest-friendly options available.

Should it be needed (you are welcome to let us know), we may place on this page a small Form made via Freedback, so you can try it and see for yourself what we mean above! You might decide you want to use the service, despite the described drawbacks for Your Guests, or you might try the Form for the sake of getting further Web experience. Good Web experience is no doubt an important chapter of having one's own Home Page.

HomePage Made Easy is committed with helping you get this experience right here, as much as possible, while sparing you the need to spend (often waste) a lot of time searching and surfing round. So, should you feel that the link already provided is insufficient for you to derive on your own the experience above mentioned, pls. feel free to let us know.

At any rate, we are inclined to believe that you would not feel good about subjecting your Guests to enduring a lot of advertisement junk before they are able to send you whatever information you may be asking via an Email Form! Indeed, one has to have a bit of experience in this area, to ensure that his/her Guests are dealt with in a nice way.

Thus, our having already recommended above: try, yourself, and in advance, everything that you consider offering Your Guests on Your Home Page, so you are sure to offer Your Guests something compliant with the treatment you'd like to honor them with!

Until you have gained the necessary Web experience, yourself, you are welcome to borrow ours, which we make available to you here, totally free of charge, as everything else you get from us on this Web Site! We have invested quite a lot of time in order to gain this experience we make available to you. So, make good use of it!:) This will only make us happy!

Here are a few services that provide you Email Forms, or equivalents, and which will display more compatible respect for your Guests:

To ask for a reciprocal Link to your Web Page, you can use Bravenet's Email Form services.

We'll be putting up more examples of Email Forms, including some that you can mail to yourself, or to anyone you choose to. In the meantime, here are a few options that you can try in order to get some experience in this area. If you are not interested in trying these right now, you can Click Here to skip the table below, and continue reading.

Examples of Mail Forms on this Site, which You are Welcome to try:
  • For one possible type of mail form, Click Here and try our polls, all of which are examples of possible mail forms that you can have on Your Site. Just in these forms you write nothing, and instead make choices with your mouse.

Please Note: You do not have to know any bit of java language in order to have all these forms on Your Site, as there are services that provide them for free! More about this, below.

  • Another example available on this Site can be found among the Tell-a-Friend Services. Here's the link to a mail form that actually allows you to write a message and even get a copy of the mail you send, if you so choose (you find this example on the right hand column, in the new window that opens as you click on the link above).
Now, If you are interested in getting one of these Tell-a-Friend Services to help increase the number of visitors that your Web Site enjoys, then please return here after trying all the e-mail forms that you wish to try! Or else read on, for these are all dealt with at large on the present Page.
Any any rate, you are better off not getting diverged to the "Tell-a-Friend" issue right now! For what goes below is relevant regarding which of these Tell-a-Friend services to choose! They are all fairly similar services, though the details in which they differ can well make a good difference in the way you enjoy using the service that you sign up with.

  • Finally, concerning the e-mail form issue, you may wish to try the services offered by Freedback, already mentioned above.

To make it possible that someone recommends your Web Page to a friend, right from your Site, you can make use of one of these forms, just as well (if you have not tried them above, never mind it, for you will have another link below--just pls. hang on for now). BraveNet offers a form to this end, which is just about ready to be pasted on your page (why "just about"? It becomes clear below).

Allowing your Guests to invite their friends to your Web Page evidently also means more visitors--or more hits, in Web jargon. So this is very good policy:).

There are choices other than the one provided by Bravenet, as far as allowing Your Guests to invite their friends to visit Your Home Page, Some of these choices are, in fact, simpler both to put up and to make use of. Why simpler? All you have to do is to place a button (copy and paste a code) onto Your Page.

Bravenet's invite-a-friend service may also be a simple matter of copying and pasting. However, because you are faced with an Email Form that comes in a Table, you may be in need of adjusting colors, fonts, width of the Table, etc, in order for it to fit Your Page properly. And here you may get into some trouble, if you are not experienced. The choices mentioned in the previous paragraph, in contrast, really require from you no more than a mere copy-and-paste operation. You will be placing a small button on your page--not a real Email Form. So, no adjustments are needed.

In these two cases, the Email Form will appear after Your Guest clicks on the button. This Email Form will have been made directly for Your Guests' use, thus you never needing to deal directly with it! Quite simple, isn't it?!

Your Guests, in turn, will be filling in basically the same kind of information in the three cases, as you will be able to verify, for yourself, once you give these possibilities a try.

The result is likewise basically the same, whether you have on Your Page one of the two buttons or the Email Form: a very friendly and short e-mail message is received by the person being invited by one of your Guests to visit your Web Page!

The two services that require the mere placing of a button on Your Page are provided by both MailBits, and by SiteGadgets. Bravenet, in turn, offers you an equivalent service, however requiring that you place the very Email Form on Your Page, as already referred to.

Worthy mentioning is that the three service providers discussed above (BraveNet, Site Gadgets and MailBits) offer you their tell-a-friend services 100% free of charge!

Of these two services that are simpler to install on Your Site (MailBits' and SiteGadgets') the former offers yet a few other advantages, by comparison. To begin with, MailBits actually offers you a small amount of money for using their service! (Pls. do not expect to get rich!...unless you have a super Web Site, which enjoys a Super daily Traffic, etc., etc....but, well, you would not be here if you had all that, right?!;)... Now, a nice box of chocolates, a fine bottle of wine, these can be fair aspirations now and then, considering what you may derive just from making use of MailBits' invite-a-friend  Services! Let's say you could consider these occasional treats as a small fair compensation for the time and effort you put into developing Your Web Site, or as a little help toward paying for your Web Host Provider, if you pay for this service. Anyway, you certainly deserve a little compensation for the effort you put into develping your page!:)

In addition to allowing you the possibility of a small celebration now and then, MailBits(again, differently from the other two services) makes no request regarding your placing their banner on Your Web Site. There are no such commitments, when you sign up with MailBits. Bravenet and SiteGadgets, on the other hand, will amicably request that Your Web Site wear one of their banners (at your choice, in the case of Bravenet). Bravenet, in addition, places an extra button right below every service that you enjoy from them. You can check around on our Web Site and see that, underneath services provided by Bravenet and SiteGadgets, there is an extra advertisement button.

MailBits, moreover, allows you yet a greater degree of fredom, as far as what (and how) You place on Your Web Site, as far as the service they provide is concerned! MailBits does not interfere at all with how you go about displaying on your Page the tell-a-friend service that they offer you. You are 100% free to make your own choices in this regard. Below is a brief overview of the different choices you have, as you sign up for the tell-a-friend service with MailBits.

For example, at MailBits, you are given the possibility of placing just a short text on your page, if you so wish. This text can be either a text of your own making or, if you lack inspiration, it can be one of the texts that the MailBits folks have ready for you to place on your Web Page.

Maybe you prefer not to use just a simple text... After all, small buttons are more attractive, and can better catch Your Guests' attention, although every button/image adds to the bandwith you consume and to the time a page takes to load--you should also keep in mind, as you make your choice.

In the case you prefer to use one of the buttons that MailBits makes available to you, you likewise enjoy quite a degree of freedom: you can choose among a number of buttons, according to what you feel fits your page best.

Considering all the above, our comparison among these three tell-a-friend services allows deriving the following: it seems evident that, unless you have a particular reason to wish to place an Email Form on Your Site for this purpose, both MailBits and Site Gadgets emerge as easier services to sign up with to this end. Both services are pretty equivalent, except regarding the small revemue you may be anle to derive, in addition to the greater degree of freedom and choice that MailBits allows You regarding the lay-out you will use for their tell-a-friend service. In this sense, then, MailBits comes out with an advantage. It is in fact our favorite service amongst all similar.

Now, since taste is taste, and it is something very individual, we would suggest that you give each of the three services a try, instead of just taking our word. Direct experience can never be rivaled, constituting the best means for making choices wisely. In addition, it is also very wise to try out beforehand that which we we intend to provide our guests--for at times there can be surprises (for example, the amount of advertisement junk that one goes through as one submits an Email form via the otehrwise excellent services provided by Freedback, as already mentioned above).

So, you have the chance to try out each of these three tell-a-friend services, right from this Page. As you give them a try, you will see that not only Your Guest, but also the friend that Your Guest invites to visit Your Home Page, they will be both experiencing a nice and friendly atmosphere! MailBits, in special, excels in respect for the public in general, in all levels of its services--we can attest for that. This is actually true of MailBits not only as far as Your Guests are concerned, but just as well regarding You, once you sign up for one of their services.

As an example, we can guarantee you (from experience) that if you need to send MailBits an e-mail, you will be promptly answered by a human being who does show interest in your case. (Whereas it is quite common, these days, to get answered by a machine, after which answer, a human answer might never follow...)

As far as BraveNet and SiteGadgets, we can attest that they seem quite friendly on their pages. We have not had the chance of trying direct communication with them, however, so we cannot attest any further. If you have had the experience of communicating directly with either Web Site, you are very welcome to share this experience with us! Just pls. Click Here and share it! Alternatively (or additionally--you choose!), you are welcome to share this experience on either of HomePage MadeEasy's Bulletim Boards. Whichever alternative you prefer, just pls. remember that your experience could turn out to be invaluable to other Netters who, like you, are busy building or improving their Home Pages!:)

You can see and try examples of these three services right on this page, as already mentioned. We suggest that you try inviting a friend over using each of the services, so you can derive an idea of what to expect from each service. This experience will allow you, further, to choose the one service that you'd prefer to use on Your Own Web Page! These are all reliable and efficient services, and equally respectful of Your privacy and Your Guests'. They are also quite "Guest-friendly."

In addition to our comparison and contrast regarding advantages and disadvantages as you sign up with one or another tell-a-friend service, it is now important that you can see for yourself how it all works! You have three good possibilities to choose from, and the best way to choose is by experimenting, experiencing, and then deciding. Moreover, it is a very good habit (never too much to repeat!) to experience, beforehand, that which you wish to offer Your Guests. This can surely help avoid possible unpleasant surprises!

Ready to give these three good services your try?

Click Here and an extra window will open. From there you can both try the services and sign up for the one you find suits you best.

Sign up is simple and swift. Here are the three sign-up links to choose from. Just click on the one you prefer, and enjoy this good addition to Your Home Page!:) Happy promoting, too! You can be sure this will definitely help you increase traffic!

Click on the Link of Your choice,
for Your Tell-a-Friend Service:
MailBits SiteGadgets Bravenet

Just to ensure that you have gotten it all right, here's a brief summary of the different possibilities we have discussed above, and the respective Service Providers:
  • For different Email Forms you may wish to make use of, for communicating with Your Guests, you can find a flexible range of choices at Bravenet.

  • For Polls, Votes, Quizzes, and the like, you can use either Bravenet or SiteGadgets.

  • To allow Your Guests to invite their friends to visit Your Home Page, you have a yet wider choice, among Bravenet, SiteGadgets, and MailBits.

A fourth service has recently come out, and is thus being added to the above three. Click Here and try the service offered by RecommendIt. And, if you like it, you can sign up right away.

One nice aspect of this service is that your guests may win a large $ prize--you, too, can be entered to win the same US$10,000 announced, as you click on the link that we provide on top of this page (left side).

RecommendIt additionally offers you the possibility of earning some money with them, if you sign up for the service. You should not count on that, however. Whatever the criteria that they use to keep track of hits, their reports don't seem to move from 0 (zero) accountable hits (as far as payment is concerned). On the other hand, it is certainly nice to be able to offer your guests the possibility of being automatically entered to win a large prize.

Closing the present discussion, here are Links to Web Sites that welcome the exchange of links. As you get to these Web Sites, if you do not find yourself right on the Links Page (or whatever the Page where Links can be exchanged), just look for Links on the menu and click--that will give you the right lead. Once on the Page where you can leave your Link, just follow the indicated procedure (fill in boxes, small questionnaire, etc). Then, of course, do not forget to copy the URL for the Home Page you are visiting, so you can retribute the Link! People may well check if their links have been reciprocated. In any case, there is a minimum of honesty in Netiquette which we should all honor!

Some of the Links below take you to personal Web pages. In these cases, it is always a good idea to mail a brief note to the Webmaster, in addition, stating that you have just submitted your link in seek of the welcomed link-reciprocity. This is not only a nice gesture between personal Home Page owners, but also a good safety measure: should the Email Form not function properly, whatever the reason, when you submit Your Link, the Site Owner will be able to know that you have placed a sumission!

Regarding business and other non-personal Web pages, in constrast, this sort of personal contact should be used with a degree of prudency: these Sites usually have to cope with a large volume of e-mail traffic. At any rate, you are safe to assume that whatever information you submit at non-personal Web Sites should arrive without problems. The well-functioning of their means of communication with the public is usually checked frequently, as the operation of these Sites may partly depend on the on-going on-line communication.

Below are Links taking you to Home Pages which welcome reciprocal linking. Once you have followed the good tips above regarding your own Links Page, you are very welcome to submit Your URL, so it can be added to this list! We'll be happy to help you promote further Your Home Page, by inviting our Friends and Guests who come to this page, to exchange links with you, as well! In addition, please let us know of other Web Sites that you may know or find out to be offering Link-reciprocity! The larger the list standing below, the greater the possibilities of further Web Site Promotion for all who link to the Sites appearing in this Section! Remember that the exchange of Links is a great way for promoting Home Pages--in other words, getting more visitors! Here is the list:

  1. Exchange Links
  2. Place Your Link
  3. MieNet
  4. Image Paradise
  5. Trylleri
