| Bent Bexley: A pretty embarrassing performance by Adams today. He avoided complications and then blundered his way into a lost pawn endgame. Maybe this will be the last we will see of him in the Corus A Group. |

| Bent Bexley: <Brown: Wish he never played Hydra. It destroyed two years of his competitive edge.> Again, it wasn't the Hydra match. Adams was gutted by the lost to Kasim in Libya. He was in the finals of the FIDE World Championship. If he won he would have been World Champion (or FIDE champion) and been playing a very big money match against the greatest player in chess history. Instead, he lost to a player he outrated and should have beat. Worse yet, he missed a clear win in one of the final games. His life's work/dream was right there for him and he missed it. That is the sort of thing that would ruin anyone. |

| Caissanist: <Bent Bexley> Agreed, but I would also point out that his play is very typical of of players over 35, at least nowadays. Adams, Anand, Gelfand and Ivanchuk, who used to have quite different styles, lately seem to be quite similar (at least if Ivanchuk's Corus performance is typical). Anand is of course still better than the others. |

| thewolf: Bent Bexley: Hey, Adams loses a game badly from what i have seen everybody has done this so far.The disappointing thing is that he is usually rock-solid as white. Only lucky thing for Adams is that it happened with one game left and not at start of Corus as he probably would of done a Gelfand. |

| MichAdams: <In the 1982-83 season Michael Adams was Cornish champion, and also Cornish under-18, under-15, under-13, under-11 and lightning champion. Born 17 Nov 1971, his performance in the Lloyds Bank tournament 1984 was reckoned by Leonard Barden, in The Guardian, as probably the best ever by a 12-year-old.> (Guinness Chess: The Records) |

| kackhander: Ronen Har-Zvi said in commentary on ICC recently that he thought Adams drew 3 "won" endgames in a row at Corus simply through being unwilling to take any kind of risk at all. I'm terrible at endgames so I can't really establish the veracity of that statement. Do any clued-up kibitzers have an opinion on what Ronen said? |

| MaxxLange: <Gameoverziggy> I'd say it makes him look like a nerd with a bad haircut |

| MichAdams: That's a very nice haircut. Personally, I prefer a skinhead, but I can see that it wouldn't go particularly well with Mickey's dapper look. |

| hitman84: From the above link :
<6. What do you think of the recent scoring innovation of Win = 3, Draw = 1, and Lose = 0 points, as practiced in the World Blindfold? Will this have an effect on "draw-death" and maybe even make chess more 'dynamic' for television? Do you have a rare copy of the BBC TV MasterGame series? Can I have it?I don't see the logic of 3 points for a win. The current scoring system seems to work quite well. I think introducing a 30 move minimum on draws by agreement would be an interesting experiment, which would counter some of the current problems. The move limit could be extended if practice shows it is required. I don't think it is necessary to completely ban draw offers. > |

| hitman84: <10. If you could go back in time and play against any player, who would it be? - ketchuplover I was very happy that I got the opportunity to play two games against Mikhail Tal. It was a great honour to meet and analyse with him and watch him play hours of blitz. I would have liked to have played with Petrosian although I think the results might not have been too good.

<Ketchuplover>Was that your question ? |

| sapfy: Adams won this years main tournament in the Ruy Lopez chess festival with a +4 score and 2825 TPR. The final crosstable can be seen here:

| Anzer: One question, why on earth doesn't Adams play 1.d4? I would definitely fit his style more. He should try it sometime |

| Resignation Trap: Adams is the top-rated player in the upcoming tournament in Liverpool: http://www.liverpoolchessinternatio... . Other players over 2600: Bacrot, Vachier-Lagrave, Short, Tiviakov, Fridman, L'Ami, Beliavsky and Laznicka. |

|
| Cactus: <Anzer> Perhaps for the same reason as I don't: (and we have a similar style) because 1.d4 isn't as positional. It sounds strange, but things like the semi-slav are very tactical, whereas it's easier to steer 1.e4 games into positional waters. Even the Sicilian can be met by the Moscow/Rossimilo, (an opening that Adams has chosen on numourous ocasions). |
