Online chess instruction and games for kids
***PRESS RELEASE***

If you like playing chess and want to be on television then this Sunday’s Richmond Rapidplay could be your day! A production company will be filming Richmond Juniors’ Peter Williams as part of a new series of programmes on gifted children.

Anyone could be filmed on the day so if you wish to play in the tournament but have objections about being filmed then just let Scott Kenyon () know in advance and we will make sure that you are not filmed.

If you have not entered and would like to, the entry form is here. All prizes displayed on the entry form are guaranteed and there is a football pitch booked at the venue for those of you that would like a game in between rounds.

We run six Rapidplay tournaments a year.

These events are open to players of all ages and strengths.

All players play six games with 30 minutes per player on the clock. There are four sections: Open, Major (U160), Intermediate (U120) and Minor (U80) based on BCF Rapidplay Grades. All players scoring 4˝/6 or more are guaranteed a cash prize, and there is also a Grand Prix running throughout the season.

The Open section always attracts several International Masters and sometimes also Grandmasters. Most of the players in this section are county standard or above. The Major section is for average to strong club players, and always includes a number of ambitious juniors. The Intermediate section is for weaker club players and stronger juniors, who usually make up about half of the competitors. The Minor section is for social players (parents - and grandparents - are encouraged to take part) and juniors. It's not really suitable for absolute beginners but anyone above that level will benefit from taking part.

The events take place at the White House Community Centre in Hampton (click here for map), an attractive and spacious modern building. As it is close to the end of the M3 it is easily accessible by road from anywhere in the South or West of England. There is a bus stop outside (buses to Kingston, Twickenham, Richmond, Hounslow and Heathrow) and Hampton Station is a short walk away.

The Chief Controller is Adam Raoof (his website includes photographs taken at our tournaments). The bookstall is provided by Mind Sports Ltd. Light refreshments are available - and there is an all-weather sports pitch for football games between rounds.
