Juval Aviv, formerly an Israeli Counterterrorism Intelligence Officer, has giving us Staying Safe, a guide to protecting yourself anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

For example, if you have no choice but to accept a hotel room with a sliding glass door, block it with a dresser drawer, not a piece of wood.

Or, US hotel chains are more likely to have better security.

Or, leave an item on the seat of your car.  If it has been moved, someone has been inside.

Staying Safe is packed with tips that could save your life.  Nancy

Escaltor Safety

Our Caryn was at the mall when she heard a blood curdling scream.  A child had gotten his foot caught in an escalator.  He screamed for about four minutes before he was freed, and kept screaming as he was carried to the ambulance.

Caryn said the boy's shoelace was entangled in the mechanism of the escalator.  So please, please make sure your children know the dangers of dragging shoelaces and escalators.  And stop anyone - even strangers - from boarding an escalator with their shoes untied.

Fire Safety

Living in a home with anti-burglar bars on the windows?  Make sure they can be opened from the inside, and show everyone in your household how to do it.

According to the US Fire Administration, about 25 people die every year in fires in homes with burglar bars.
