| MostlyAverageJoe: <notyetagm> & <Manic> I think most would see that 21.Bxe6 wins handily, so it would not have been a good puzzle. But indeed, Qe5 is really pleasant. I wonder whether the black really missed seeing the mate in two after QxQ, or did he play this to terminate the lost game quickly (could've refused the sac, after all). |

| gandu: ...and yet, wouldn't have 21 Bxe6+ even better than 21 Qe5 ?? Then 21...Kh8 (taking with the bishop leads to mate) and 22 Qh5. |

| uuft: I don't understand black's opening moves at all. No wonder this got to be a 'Tal Order'.
Who is this Chandler anyway?
Nice little finish, though. :) |

| kevin86: Yet another sacrificial sequence by Tal. It seems when most people sacrifice pieces,it is a one-liner;with Tal,it is a novel! Chandler was better off on FRIENDS,lol |

| efrain chavez: After move 20 the f8 square is the strongest one for BLACK around the board!! Just look. It is defended 4 or 5 times, depending on how you count. Yet, it is the target of Tal's imagination! Anyone would settle for 21 Bxd6+ winning latter on. But this is not enough. Tal blocked the a8 rook, pinned the knight on e6 and attack the queen on c5. That is 3 down out of the original 5. At the same time he attacks the f8 square with two rooks and a pawn. I agree with earlier comments. Tal was a genius!
By the way the Queen "offer" on e5, can not be declined by black. Any attempt to keep the black Queen on the f8-a3 diagonal fails to save the game. I see 22 Qf5 as the main threat.
Thanks Mikhail again and again!. |

| YouRang: It looks like 19. Nxe7 was called for to quell the threats, but Chandler didn't see the danger (who can blame him) and went on the offensive with 29. Nxc3?, which quickly lost. |

| zb2cr: Just beautiful. What an incredible "chess imagination" Tal had, to be able to see the sophisticated sequence of tactics following move 14. |

| mworld: Its amazing to see Tal games. He really keeps his eye on the ultimate goal and never seems to lose site that it is mate not material that wins. |

| TigerPawns: strange tal didn't play 16. Qh5+, which finishes things without the need for mind bending calculations. |

| MaxxLange: <TigerPawns> Can you give some lines after, say, 16. Qh5+ Kg8 17. Qxe8? I'm not sure that really is a clearer win. |

| RookFile: Some people are known as endgames specialists. I think in Tal's case, he was known as an 'end game' specialist. |
|
Sep-13-08 |
| pom nasayao: 21. Bxe6 is not a good one. The rook check from f1 to f8 will be useless since the BQueen at c5 still guards the f8 square, after W's promotion at f8. 21. Qe5 is the best move since it deflects the control of the BQueen at f8, thereby the WR check on the f8 square will not put to naught. |
